BOOK A RLS
Hi, I'm Tansina, and I graduated from The Bronx High School of Science and am attending Baruch College. I've been taking care and educating kids every since my little brothers were born. Aside from the eldest sibling duties, I volunteered at my local library to help school children with their homework and crafts. While simultaneously reading and helping, it was there that I decided I want to create my own stories and invent worlds that people would want to escape to, so I started publishing my own webcomic. Drawing and writing took over my life and finally gave me a pathway that I want to follow. I know what it's like to not have the same opportunities as some of my peers may have, but just one push was all I needed to start my own journey doing something I love. I hope to do the same for those that need that extra little push. I like to do anything that is creative, like knitting and drawing.
Hi! My name is Sophia and I am currently a student at the College of Staten Island double majoring in English 7-12 Education and Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies. My dream job is to be a teacher and provide students with a comfortable space to encourage learning and growth in addition to critical thinking skills that can be applied in all aspects of a student's life, not just in a classroom. I have interned with the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust as a lead tour guide as well as an assistant tour guide at the Children's Museum of the Arts. I love creative forms of art! Dancing, writing, sketching, and painting are some of my chosen forms of creative expression that I am passionate about. I majored in Visual Arts at my high school and have an Arts endorsed diploma from NYC for my grade on the Art Regents. I also am a reader- my favourite genre of literature is young adult fiction. I love to write prose and creative nonfiction memoirs.
Hi! My name is Sam Backner and I am a senior graduating this semester from Binghamton University. I am from Brooklyn, NY, and am living at home finishing up school online now. I will be free to tutor this spring most weekday mornings and afternoons, and love working with kids. I tutored at Binghamton High School last year, working with students on all subjects they needed assistance with. I have experience as a tennis camp counselor for 5 plus years, as well as working with students at the Brooklyn Public Library. I am passionate about education and policy, and am planning to pursue a master's degree in public policy eventually. I look forward to working with students on their remote learning this semester!
Hi, I'm Peyton! I am from Birmingham, AL. but am currently studying at Barnard College of Columbia University. I plan on majoring in international political science with a concentration in Arabic and am a passionate social justice advocate, specifically for women's reproductive rights. During my sophomore year of high school I was awarded a grant to travel to Cambodia where I studied reproductive health with other advocates in the field. After returning to my high school in Virginia, I passed a proposal which invested in providing our students with free access to menstrual hygiene products. These experiences have taught me the value of learning by doing, and I hope to pass on this knowledge through the tutoring program. I have experience in childcare, babysitting for several families in my hometown ranging from the ages of 4 to 13, and I also have experience tutoring a student in high school algebra. I am excited to be a part of this community, and I look forward to working with you soon!

I'm passionate about advocating for the involvement of young black women and girls in STEM and academia, although literature and reading has been a passion of mine for many years. It's my favorite pastime and even with my hectic college student schedule, I try to read everyday. I'm also interested in streetwear, avant garde makeup, and abstract art, I'm excited to get to know you not only as a tutor, but as a guide.
Hi! My name's Leann and I'm currently on a gap year before going to UPenn. I'm really passionate about the environment and sustainability, so on my gap year, I volunteered on a farm in Hawaii for a month and I hiked part of the Appalachian Trail. Other than that, I'm really interested in anthropology and psychology and hope to pursue those in college! Outside of school, I love reading and have been playing the piano for over 10 years and am really passionate about social justice and reform.
